For Black women as well as Black men, it is axiomatic that if we do not define ourselves for ourselves, we will be defined by others - for their use and to our detriment. The development of self-defined Black women, ready to explore and pursue our power and interests within our communities, is a vital component in the war for Black liberation.

Client testimonial: “The word "transformative" gets thrown around a lot. But it's fitting when I think about my work with Mattice. One of her many gifts is being able to see your best possible self. She helped me get out of my head and tap into my heart to discover what's most important to me. She helped me embrace uncertainty, choose rest over action, faith over worry, and delight in possibility. I am more grounded, content, and trusting of myself. I'm kinder to the parts that need care and more accepting of those that I often try to hide. I feel more powerful and equipped to lead.”

Coaching for
S.E.L.F. Determination

The world needs the medicine you were uniquely created to offer and I’m passionate about helping you unleash more of your gifts. I see coaching as one transformative tool which can support you in unfolding and sustaining the changes you desire.

My coaching gives you a brave space to slow down, let the walls down a bit, and focus on yourself; something that many black women, black queer, trans or gender nonconforming people working for equity and justice within the nonprofit industrial complex, philanthropy or social justice movements aren’t able to do as often as they might like to.

My approach to coaching is trauma-informed and guided by principles of self-determination, liberation, embodiment and healing. You’ll define the outcomes you want to achieve through our coaching relationship. My role is to help hold sacred space for your whole, authentic self by asking powerful questions while providing support, structure, accountability, and guidance.

Some of the possible benefits of coaching include:

  • Increased clarity, awareness, acceptance, confidence, well-being and power

  • Moving through limiting thoughts or habits including internalized oppression, shame and fear

  • Identifying and accomplishing self-defined goals through clear, achievable action plans and accountability

  • Becoming a more powerful, adaptive leader, facilitator or consultant

  • Access to tools, resources and connections which help you deepen your anti-oppression, equity, liberation or transformation work

  • Cultivating a healing-support ecosystem for yourself

  • Practice establishing, clearly communicating and enforcing boundaries
